What is Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and why should I switch?
Google Analytics 4 is the current and only supported version of Google Analytics. Universal Analytics was finally shut down in mid-2023 and historic data is no longer retrievable. GA4 works event-based instead of session-based, which enables significantly more flexible analyses. You get better cross-device reports, can track user behaviour across different platforms, and are prepared for a future without third-party cookies. Particularly valuable: the integration with Google Ads is much more powerful in GA4, taking campaign optimisation to a new level. If you haven't switched yet, you are actively losing valuable data.
Is Google Analytics GDPR-compliant?
The legal situation is genuinely complex, but with the right configuration Google Analytics can be operated in a GDPR-compliant way. This includes: IP anonymisation, a cleanly implemented consent management system, data processing in the EU, and a correct privacy policy. Since the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, the situation has eased further. We set up your setup so it meets the current Austrian DSB requirements, and keep it up to date with legal changes.
